Daan Hooiveld of Municipal Interests Borger-Odoorn will return to the city council after all. His party has just announced this in a group chairperson meeting prior to the council meeting, in which the old council says goodbye.
“Daan will not return. He will stay,” says Harm Greven, the leader of the Municipal Interests Borger-Odoorn. “What happened at the time was emotion. At that moment he felt a lot of pressure.”
As a party leader, Hooiveld went through a stressful period, in which a lot of campaign work in the run-up to the municipal elections of last March ended up on his shoulders. “He has done a lot of work. When he then read in that report that no one wanted to work with us, it was very difficult. We are also not talking about a national secret, are we. Twenty minutes later the report would be presented. so bad?” Greven wonders.
“I had a conversation with Harm at mayor Jan Seton and I’ll just come back,” explains Hooiveld. “We have come to the conclusion that this is best for both parties.” Until the summer, the benjamin of the city council will take it easy. “So there will be no spokesperson from my side. After the summer I will be fully involved again.”
When the new council is installed, Hooiveld is back in its place in the town hall. He was actually supposed to be present during the exploratory council meeting this evening, but he has been felled by an infection with the corona virus.
