Hoogeveen judo trainer in abuse case taught until April

The judo trainer from Hoogeveen who is suspected of abusing three underage students was active as a youth trainer until April.

He was only suspended in the spring, after a report of inappropriate behavior was received by the Sports Jurisdiction Institute (ISR). That reports RTV East. The judo trainer is suspected of abusing three underage judokas between 2015 and 2019.

When the report was received by the ISR in April, the Judo Association Netherlands (JBN) was also informed. “We then took a disciplinary measure,” explains Tessa Brouwer of the judo association. “This means that the man was not allowed to be active in any way from the Judo Association Netherlands.”

The JBN was only told that it was a report of inappropriate behavior and that a police investigation was underway. “We then informed the associations where he was active at that time.”

The man is a well-known name in the Drenthe and Overijssel judo world. He provided training at several associations for many years. In addition, according to his own social media, he worked at the Slagharen Amusement & Holiday Park and as a supervisor at the Vanboeijen healthcare organization in Assen during the period of the abuse.

The man was also a trainer at JudoSchool Assen for almost five years. As far as is known, he did not cause any casualties there.

For the time being, the suspect is not allowed to take action in the judo world. “We are now awaiting the criminal investigation and we will anticipate this. Until then, he is not allowed to hold any position within our union.”

The trainer must answer before the judges in Zwolle at the end of this year.
