Hoogeveen completes a beautiful week

Hoogeveen has given a fitting follow-up to the beautiful cup victory over Staphorst. At home, the team of coach Stef Lamberink defeated DVS ’33 from Ermelo 3-2. It was the Drenthe’s first competition victory of this season.

The breaking point of the match was already after half an hour. DVS ’33 then had to continue with ten men and Hoogeveen optimally exploited the numerical majority. Immediately after Tarik Evre had been sent off, Emil Bijlsma scored to make it 1-0 and just before half time, Jeroah Balubun doubled the lead after an individual highlight, followed by a diagonal strike that hit the goal via the far post.

Red card

Evre should no longer have been on the field when the weakly leading referee Kaper showed him his second yellow card. The captain of the Ermelo team should have been shown a straight red card after just over fifteen minutes after the ferocious charge with which he knocked Bijlsma down. Kaper wrongly settled for yellow. In the commotion that arose after the red card that was not given, the goalkeeper coach Raimon Benjamins, who was far too emotional, received the yellow card.

Calf injury

Hoogeveen, which still did not have the defensive pair Levon van Dijk and Bjorn Klaassens, the latter will be back next weekend, had to continue without Menno Heerkes after less than half an hour. The captain was sidelined with a calf injury. Tom Heerkes took over the captaincy from his brother and also played in his position. Sil Kuurman completed the home team’s team from the right flank.

Tough game after halftime

Hoogeveen played a better first than second half. Before the break, there were some skilful combinations at times, but after the restart the game was more difficult. “I thought it was quite dead for a while,” Lamberink said. Despite the man-plus situation, his team was no longer able to create much offensively. With Louis Vijfhuizen as organizer and best man, the Drenthe had their affairs in order defensively. There was nothing to criticize about the team’s work ethic and commitment for the full ninety minutes.

Loss of concentration

Fifteen minutes before the end, the match seemed to be over and the first three-pointer for Hoogeveen of this season was a fact. Kuurman then signed for the 3-0 with a placed shot. In extra time it unexpectedly became exciting. Loss of concentration almost broke Hoogeveen. First, Lars van Wetering scored and shortly afterwards, former FC Groningen player Stef Nijland also scored.

Two corner kicks

DVS ’33 then also received two corner kicks, but Hoogeveen held firm and at Kaper’s final whistle the players’ hands went up in relief. The first victory of this season was achieved, leaving the bottom place in the rankings. “I thought it was a match with many faces,” said Lamberink. “In the beginning we had the upper hand and our first two goals came at great moments. The first immediately after their red card and the second just before half time.”

Hoogeveen’s trainer beamed. “I have seen good phases from my team all season. It’s a beautiful week.”
