Honorary mayor Frans Vanheule van Reninge passed away

Frans Vanheule was elected for the first time in 1964 and immediately became alderman, a position he held continuously for 24 years. After that he was OCMW for six years[1]chairman and served on the council at the same time. In 1994, Frans Vanheule became mayor for the first time. He wore the mayor’s sash for 11 years, until 2005. Current mayor Lode Morlion then succeeded him. Frans Vanheule also bears the titles of honorary mayor, honorary social welfare chairman and honorary alderman.

Reaction mayor Lode Morlion

“The death of honorary mayor Frans Vanheule was a big surprise and quite unexpected for me. In any case, it reminds me of the long period during which I was able to work with him. First as OCMW chairman and later as alderman. The relationship was always top notch. Frans gave everyone who asked the space to develop his policy. He was not a man of big words, but someone who always strived for consensus. Arguing was definitely not for him.”

The funeral will take place on Tuesday, August 1 at 10:30 a.m. in the Sint-Rictrudiskerk in Reninge
