Until today Hobie Verhulst had a great season. In the summer, the AZ goalkeeper won the competition from Peter Vindahl and after that it ran like a train for him and the Alkmaar club. On Sunday, Verhulst blundered in the home game against Feyenoord with the second goal. “This just sucks of course.”
“I have to get that ball,” says Hobie Verhulst about the moment in the 56th minute. The long shot by Feyenoord player Sebastian Szymanski half processed the Alkmaar keeper. “I had to wait a little longer and then I could have tapped it to the side.”
Mild Pascal Jansen
AZ started as the leader in the squatter against Feyenoord. Thanks to a nice goal from Jens Odgaard, the Alkmaarders still took the lead, but due to personal mistakes by Sam Beukema (causing a penalty kick) and Hobie Verhulst, AZ eventually loses 1-3 in their own stadium. Afterwards, AZ coach Pascal Jansen was mild to his goalkeeper. “This is very annoying for Verhulst, but we must not forget what precedes it.”

Few chances
The victory was also deserved for Feyenoord. Before the break, both teams were pretty evenly matched, but after the break, the team from Rotterdam dominated. AZ created almost no chance in the second half. “We played less, so we came out less well.”

Due to the loss, AZ has lost the lead in the Eredivisie and the Alkmaarders drop to place four in the ranking. AZ will visit Excelsior next weekend.
