dAs boys, none of us was touched by the idea that being a woman was better than being a man. This is why I will always remember when one of our slightly older companions said to us: «You are wrong. We will never know the feelings that motherhood causes. The pain, but also the immense satisfaction of giving a life».
Here you are, the question improperly called “womb for rent” it reminds me that the woman who carries and gives birth to someone else’s child is left with pain, perhaps even with the satisfaction of giving a life; but the son does not remain, that life does not remain.
As always when it comes to civil rights, every opinion must be listened to and respected. There are no good and bad, right-thinking and depraved. There are people who have a different background (cultural or religious) and opinion, and they should learn to dialogue without causing offense, and without taking offense.
That said, I believe that, after recognizing the right to civil unions, it would be unfair and even cruel to exclude the right of same-sex couples – a family in which the role of parents is played by a couple of persons belonging to the same sex – to see their children recognized by the law, and to see themselves recognized as parents.
In short, you cannot tell two homosexuals that they are in fact married, but cannot have children. Different is the discourse on gestation for others. Paying a woman to grow a child inside her, give birth to him, and then part with him and possibly forget him is just as cruel, if not more so.
Pregnancy is a miracle that has been happening for millions of years. It is a prodigious and delicate phase of existence. An emotional bond develops between the woman who held him and the child: breaking it often costs suffering that money cannot alleviate.
While allowing to adopt a child seems to me a more humane solution. Then of course there are beautiful stories of women happy to help others. But there are far less beautiful stories of women doing it to survive.
