Homosexual Ali, who found a partner in Hoogeveen, deported to Pakistan

Homosexual Ali, who fled to the Netherlands, stayed in the Hoogeveen asylum seekers’ center and entered into a registered partnership at the town hall, has been put on a plane to his home country Pakistan. This is reported by LGBT Asylum Support, an organization that represents the interests of LGBTI asylum seekers.

31-year-old Ali and his partner Radja fled separately to the Netherlands because homosexuality is a criminal offense in Pakistan. They met each other in November 2019 at the asylum center in Hoogeveen and registered their partnership.

However, the IND immigration service informed Ali that the homosexual orientation had not been made plausible and the judge agreed. Because, the judge reasoned, when registering a partnership, no investigation is carried out into the orientation of those involved. Ali would not have been able to convince the IND that he already had relationships with men in Pakistan.

Ali ended up in prison two weeks ago. He waited for deportation in the so-called immigration detention. On Wednesday he was put on a plane back to Pakistan.

Against it Algemeen Dagblad Ali’s lawyer Paul Stieger said he was stunned. According to him, an appeal procedure was still ongoing. In his view, the haste in the deportation leaves him incomprehensible. “Then take action against asylum seekers causing nuisance. Those are not Ali and Radja.” The PvdA in the House of Representatives also questioned the responsible outgoing State Secretary Eric van der Burg (VVD) about the issue.

The counselor is trying to use an emergency procedure to force Ali to return to the Netherlands to await the appeal. The AD further writes that Radja now also fears deportation.
