Homeruns help HCAW to historic European Cup after winning against defending champion Parma

Three times a charm for HCAW After losing two previous finals, the Dutch champion has won the European Cup for the first time in history. Defending champion Parma defeated with clear numbers: 11-4. Homeruns by Victor Draijer, Shurman Marlin and Max Draijer, among others, made the difference.

Despite the high score, the first two innings remained without runs. The Italians immediately scored twice in the next inning. A homerun by Victor Draijer came at an ideal time to make it 2-1. In inning number six, Parma again took a two-run margin (4-1). Two short homeruns in a row by Shurman Marlin and Max Draijer turned the game completely (4-8).

The seventh inning was also important, as three runs were scored in it and the victory seemed almost certain. However, the referee lacked HCAW’s good flow because of the sun. Therefore, the game was halted for more than an hour and the game resumed in the eighth inning.

The score didn’t change after the interruption, allowing HCAW to celebrate. Amsterdam Pirates won the bronze medal earlier in the day by beating Bonn Capitals (12-6).
