Homeless Tamara and dog overloaded with help: ‘That really touches me’

She is extremely grateful for the amount of support she has received. Tamara has been living with her dog in the car along the Spoorlaan in Oss for months and told Omroep Brabant her story on Thursday. It led to thousands of responses, many people offered help. “Dozens of people have been here. That does so much to me,” says Tamara on Saturday with tears in her eyes.

A blue Opel Astra has been parked along the Spoorlaan in Oss for months. Since Tamara ended up in a heated neighbor dispute and a conflict with the housing association, she lives with dog Pebbles in her car. She does not want to go to the homeless shelter, because Pebbles is not allowed to come along.

Her car’s battery is dead, so Tamara hasn’t had a heater in weeks either. But this Saturday she is finally a lot less cold. “I got everything. A hot water bottle, blankets, gloves and food,” she sums up.

“Kibbles have even been brought for Pebbles.”

The sweet comments Tamara has received are endless. Thousands of people responded to her story on social media. And Tamara also notices the warmth in real life. “Many people stop for a chat or bring things. They ask what they can do for me and then come back later. Food, hot water or a power bank. They even brought kibble for Pebbles.”

She calls the help heartwarming. When she tells more about it, she bursts into tears. “Yesterday a girl came by with her father. They gave a chew snack for the dog. Not everyone has it wide, but that they do it anyway, that’s so sweet. It really touches me to see that people have a warm heart for me contribute.”

“I can barely move because of the cold and because I don’t have any medication.”

There are also people who have offered temporary shelter or a hot shower, but according to Tamara, her medical condition prevents her from responding. She has rheumatism and a lot of pain in her hips, knees, ankles and legs. “I’m in a lot of pain. I can barely move because of the cold and because I don’t have any medication. My car doesn’t work, so I don’t have transport to those people. I could hardly walk up a flight of stairs.”

Tamara hopes her situation improves soon. A lawyer has come forward to help her. “Soon I will schedule an appointment with them. Then we will see how we are going to handle the situation. I hope that the housing association will consider returning my home.” Until then, Tamara and Pebbles stay in the car with a pile of blankets.
