Status: 08/27/2023 4:41 p.m

After the last two defeats, Karslruher SC is back on track in the 2nd Bundesliga. In the local wildlife park, KSC celebrated a 2-0 (1-0) win against Eintracht Braunschweig on Sunday (08/27/2023).

Leon Jensen made it 1-0 for Baden after a quick move (25th). In the second half, Fabian Schleusener made it 2-0 (67th). From the 40th minute, Karlsruhe also played after a red card against Braunschweig captain Jannis Nikolaou (37th) with a majority.

With seven points, the KSC has once again caught up with the top group. Braunschweig, who recently celebrated their first win of the season with a 1-0 win over Schalke 04, is stuck in the bottom of the table in 16th place with only three points from the first four games.

After a balanced initial phase, the hosts managed to take a 1-0 lead with a nice move. The very agile Marvin Wanitzek initiated the attack from the left. Lars Stindl and Sebastian Jung quickly went into the middle, where Jensen, who had moved up, shot the ball in safely from close range.

Emergency brake from Braunschweig’s Nikolaou

The goal gave KSC a boost in the minutes that followed. With fast passing and clever shifts, the Badeners put Eintracht under pressure. During this phase, Wanitzek escaped with a solo through the middle. Braunschweig’s captain Nikolaou first pulled on his jersey and then kicked the Karlsruher in the heels just before the penalty area. Referee Robert Kampka decided on the emergency brake and drew the red card. For the Lower Saxony it was the third dismissal in the fourth league game.

The guests turned the following free kick to a corner. But shortly afterwards, KSC cheered when Robin Bormuth pushed the ball over the line to make it supposedly 2-0. But the ball didn’t just hit the KSC defender’s stomach, it also hit his hand (40′). Braunschweig was outnumbered and finally went into the break with a flattering 0:1.

Eintracht striker Ujah fails free in front of the gate

The first offensive scene in the second half also belonged to KSC, when Marcel Franke headed on goal after a free kick, but failed because of the strongly reacting Eintracht goalkeeper Ron-Thorben Hoffmann (48th). But the guests didn’t hide at all and kept looking for their chances. A big one came after 56 minutes when Anthony Ujah suddenly appeared free in front of goal via the left half, but shot the shot well over the bar.

It was a tight game at first because Karlsruhe didn’t finish its offensive actions consistently enough or was unlucky – for example when referee Kampka took back a hand penalty whistle after viewing the video scenes (63.). In the 67th minute, however, KSC managed to make the preliminary decision when the Eintracht defense couldn’t clear a long shot and Schleusener made it 2-0 after a pass from Stindl from the inside right through the keeper’s legs.

Braunschweig too harmless overall

As a result, Karlsruhe still had opportunities to make the result higher. Despite a great effort, Braunschweig didn’t get a single shot that went on goal.

Karlsruhe are in demand at the start of the 5th matchday at Fortuna Düsseldorf (Friday, September 1st, 2023 at 6.30 p.m.). Fortuna also gained a lot of air recently with a clear 5-0 win at promoted SV Elversberg. At the same time, Eintracht Braunschweig has FC St. Pauli as a guest in a northern duel.
