SV Wehen Wiesbaden has prevailed against Karlsruher SC and for the time being has taken over the top of the table in the 2nd Bundesliga.
Newly promoted Wehen Wiesbaden won on Friday evening (18.08.2023) at the start of the 3rd matchday 1-0 against Karlsruher SC and took 7 points at the top of the table.
KSC remains in the middle of the table with 4 points and, after losing the cup at third division club 1. FC Saarbrücken, also suffered their first defeat of the season in the league.
Hyun-Ju Lee with the winning goal for Wehen Wiesbaden
Hyun-Ju Lee scored the only goal of the day, the Korean curled the ball from around 20 meters into the far corner (22nd minute).
The guests from Karlsruhe were the more powerful team over long stretches. Wiesbaden goalkeeper Florian Stritzel saved his team from falling behind early in the game against both Lars Stindl (8th) and Daniel Brosinski (10th).
KSC powerful, but without hits in Wiesbaden
On the other hand, Lee scored a surprising lead that gave the home side additional security. Shortly before the break, KSC goalkeeper Patrick Drewes prevented the guests from falling behind against Robin Heusser, who had run free.
KSC pressed for the equalizer after the break, Budu Zivzivadze put the ball into Wiesbaden’s box three minutes before the final whistle, but was just offside and the goal didn’t count.
