Home win against KSC: First Eggestein, then Treu – St. Pauli remains leaders

As of: October 28, 2023 3:24 p.m

In the 2nd Bundesliga, FC St. Pauli was long behind against Karlsruher SC on Saturday (October 28th, 2023) – and yet won. That was because of someone who always scores. And at the premiere of a Joker.

In Hamburg, the second minute of stoppage time was already underway when substitute Philipp Treu scored the 2-1 (0-1) winning goal with a right-footed shot from a Marcel Hartel corner. For right-back Treude, 22, signed from SC Freiburg II in the summer, it was the first goal in the 2nd Bundesliga.

And it was the culmination of a Hamburg comeback in the final phase, after all, FC St. Pauli was still behind ten minutes before the end of regular time.

Eggestein continues his run

Johannes Eggestein scored the equalizer in the 80th minute, he always scores anyway. He was successful against KSC after a cross from Connor Metcalfe. Eggestein, 25, picked the ball out of the air between two defenders with his chest, then turned and hit the bottom left corner of the goal.

It was Eggestein’s fifth goal of the season – he has scored all of his goals in the last four games. This is called a run.

Matanovic takes the lead, of all people

Previously it had looked like an away win for Karlsruher SC for a long time. That was also due to Igor Matanovic, of all people. Matanovic, 20, was born in Hamburg. He played for FC St. Pauli in his youth and later also for the professionals. But he couldn’t take that into account when they met again.

In the 43rd minute he got the ball in Hamburg’s penalty area and hit it into the top left corner from close range. However, Matanovic refrained from celebrating.
