SV Darmstadt 98 is still unstoppable in the 2nd Bundesliga. The next home win against Hannover 96 was 1-0 (0-0).
A fantastic goal by Marvin Mehlem in the 63rd minute was decisive. The Südhessen are undefeated in the 14th game (!) in a row in the lower house and proved to be a real top team that once again demonstrated their ambitions for promotion. For Hannover 96, on the other hand, a small positive series of three games without defeat ends.
“Lilies” with a lot of bite
The guests from Lower Saxony started with the same team that was successful recently. Coach Torsten Lieberknecht gave the young, only 19-year-old striker Oscar Vilhelmsson his confidence right from the start.
From the start, a classy top game developed at the sold-out Böllenfalltor. The “lilies” in particular acted with a lot of bite – and cheered after 24 minutes. But Kempe’s goal was preceded by an offside position.
Kempe misses a penalty
The second big excitement soon followed, namely in the 30th minute. After a handball by Phil Neumann just before the goal line, referee Benjamin Cortus decided on a penalty after video evidence. Neumann consequently saw the red card. But Tobias Kempe missed the great opportunity to lead Darmstadt. 96 keeper Ron-Robert Zieler parried the not badly shot penalty.
Outnumbered, the Hanoverians concentrated on working against the ball and initially earned the draw. After the change, the “Lilien” – now with Emir Karic for Kempe – continued to push the pace, but were unable to break through the hard-working opponent’s defense – until the 63rd minute.
Mehlem scores fantastically from the second row
Marvin Mehlem gave Darmstadt the lead with a super shot from the second row. The 96ers had previously blocked a Karic ball well. It was Hannover’s first goal after three clean sheets.
With the lead behind them, everything spoke for the league leaders, who continued to put a lot of pressure on the second goal. Philipp Tietz could have made everything clear in the 76th minute, but he shot wide of the goal. But it should be enough for the Lieberknecht protégés.
Darmstadt against Magdeburg, Hanover against Dusseldorf
At the end of the 16th match day, SV Darmstadt 98 now wants to continue its impressive winning streak away from the promoted team from Magdeburg (Thursday, November 10th, 2022 at 8.30 p.m.). Two days before that things get serious for Hannover at home against Arminia Bielefeld (6.30 p.m.).
