The SG Flensburg-Handewitt has overcome its interim low in the Handball Bundesliga and won its home game against HC Erlangen.

Two days after the 29:31 defeat at VfL Gummersbach, the North Germans won 31:29 (15:13) against HC Erlangen on Saturday (11/12/2022) in their home hall.

Johannes Golla, Göran Sögard Johannessen and Lasse Möller each scored eight goals for SG in front of 5,364 spectators. The best pitcher for the Franks was former Flensburg player Simon Jeppsson with six goals.

The game started evenly. The Franconians could not hold on to a 4:2 lead (10th minute) when they were outnumbered. Flensburg goalkeeper Kevin Möller parried a seven-meter penalty from Christoph Steinert, in return Sögard Johannessen increased the score to 13:10 for the hosts (23rd). Mainly thanks to the saves by goalkeeper Klemen Ferlin, Erlangen stayed within striking distance.

The North Germans kept taking the lead after the change of sides, but were unable to break away decisively. Again and again, technical sloppiness and misses by the hosts allowed the passionately fighting Erlangen to come closer. So the game was on the razor’s edge until the final phase. Two minutes before the final whistle, SG captain Golla made it 30:28. The following misthrow by HCE left-hander Antonio Metzner meant the decision.
