1. FC Kaiserslautern scored their first win of the season in the 2nd Bundesliga in a thrilling match against SV Elversberg on the Betzenberg.
After two defeats at the start, Kaiserslautern won 3-2 on Friday evening (08/18/2023) against the strong promoted team from Elversberg.
Kevin Kraus gave FCK the lead in the 21st minute, albeit only on the second attempt: Lautern’s central defender initially scored from a close range after a corner kick, but the scene was checked after VAR switched on. Kraus was probably slightly offside – referee Patrick Ittrich allowed the goal to be conceded again, but decided on a penalty because Elversberg’s defender Carlo Sickinger had clearly had his hand on the ball beforehand. The prevented goalscorer Kraus took over the execution himself, converting safely from the point.
Wild second half on the Betzenberg
The promoted team hit back ice-cold after the restart – Manuel Feil (47th) equalized with a well-considered shot into the far corner. After another successful combination, Semih Sahin gave the guests the lead (62nd) – against a Lauterer back line that was too passive.
Substitute Ragnar Ache calmed the shattered nerves of the Palatinate and scored a header shortly afterwards to equalize (68′). FCK captain Jean Zimmer (79th) then made the Betzenberg tremble with the goal to make it 3:2 by direct acceptance, which is worth seeing.
