Steven Skrzybski (33) will start his sixth season at Holstein Kiel in the summer. The Berlin native’s expiring contract on the fjord has been extended beyond the current season until 2027, as the storks announced on Thursday. When the striker’s new working paper ends, he will be approaching 35.
“Steven has internalized the Holstein DNA and embodies it both on and off the pitch,” said sports director Olaf Rebbe about Skrzybski. “He has been one of the pillars of our team for years, takes responsibility as captain and always moves forward with a lot of commitment and passion. He will continue to be one of the players around whom we want to build an exciting, developing and efficient team.”
Skrzybski came to KSV Holstein from FC Schalke 04 in 2021 after being loaned out to Fortuna Düsseldorf. He made the most appearances at a club at training club Union Berlin, where he played 143 games in the second division. There have been 126 games in Kiel so far, in which he has scored more goals with 36 goals than for Union (30). In the KSV squad, Skrzybski is currently the record player in terms of both appearances (ahead of Marco Komenda) and goals scored (ahead of Alexander Bernhardsson) – for complete statistics at Holstein.
Coach Marcel Rapp explained Skrzybski’s extension: “We all know what qualities Steven has and how extremely important he is for our game. As captain, he plays an important role on and off the pitch, pushes the team and is an important contact for me.” Skrzybski himself said: “Kiel and the KSV have been my sporting home for many years. In my private life, I also feel incredibly comfortable here with my family. I am convinced of the path here and would like to continue to take responsibility – for the team and our fans. That’s why it was clear to me: I will remain a Holsteiner with full conviction.”
