Holiday traffic: code red on European roads, Touring warns of long traffic jams heading south | Abroad

Touring warns of traffic problems heading south. In Switzerland, for example, there is a long traffic jam at the Gothard tunnel. In France, the exodus causes fewer problems than last week. Those who leave on Sunday will have few problems, let the mobility organization know.

In Switzerland it was already early in the morning queuing for the Gothard tunnel to Italy. There was a traffic jam of 12 kilometers (or 1h50 waiting time) at 6 o’clock in the morning. During the day, the traffic jam grew to 15 kilometers (or 2.30 hours waiting time). The crowds are decreasing very slowly and the problems will last until the evening.

Elsewhere in Europe, the rush started later. In Germany only from 9 am and in France from 10 am. Traffic peaked at noon. In France, the problems have greatly eased since the afternoon. In Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Slovenia and Croatia, the crowds decrease very slowly and will last until the evening.

France, Germany and Austria

In France, there are mainly traffic jams on the A7 Lyon-Orange and the A9 Orange-Narbonne Spain. There is also a lot of traffic on the A10 Paris-Bordeaux, especially in the Bordeaux area. The number of traffic jams quickly increased sharply, from a total of 166 kilometers of traffic jams at 10 am to 685 kilometers in total at the peak in the afternoon. Traffic problems have eased considerably since noon. The main bottlenecks remain the A7/A9 Lyon-Orange-Narbonne and the A10/A63 in the wider Bordeaux area.

In Germany, it is currently still very busy in southern Germany with delays. There is 10 kilometers of traffic jam before the border crossing on the A8 towards Salzburg. In Austria, there is a traffic jam on the A10 Salzburg-Villach in the direction of Slovenia for the Tauern tunnel and on the A11 Villach-Slovenia for the Karawanken tunnel due to traffic and police checks.
