Holiday park Europarcs tries hard to keep bungalows dry

The Europarcs Poort van Amsterdam holiday park is partly flooded due to the extremely high water in the Markermeer. The holiday homes are still dry and people are working hard to keep it that way.

Although the stone bungalows are still dry, the hiker’s huts are flooded. “There the water is up to a meter high,” says Teun Jansen of Europarcs.

“That is also the lowest part of the park,” he explains. “We now also use that to collect the large amounts of water.” If more water comes into the park, the water will be pumped to the low-lying area.

Protocols were ready for the park employees to ensure that things remain somewhat dry. “We are working with all our might to keep the homes of our guests dry.”

“The wind is expected to shift later today, bringing water towards us,” the Europarcs employee explains. That is why the pumps in the park have been running at full speed all day long.

The guests are not deterred by the water, for the time being everyone chooses to stay in the park. But not only people stayed in the park, a bunch of horses were also shocked by the water. “We managed to rescue a bunch of miniature horses, which are a little closer to the ground, in time.” The three horses are now dry and safe in the shelter in Winkel.
