HOI Werken has to do it alone in Hilvarenbeek

The local party HOI Werken has to do it alone in Hilvarenbeek. The VVD and the CDA withdrew from consultations about a new council on Tuesday. This happened during a public meeting at City Hall. There a ‘cohabitation agreement’ of the three parties was discussed. HOI Werken was the big winner of the municipal elections in March with nine seats.

With that number of seats, HOI Werken could only pull the strings in Hilvarenbeek. However, the party of party leader Ko Hamelink sought cooperation with the VVD and CDA, the other two parties active in the municipality.

The possible collaboration was discussed in a public meeting on Tuesday. At that meeting, it appeared that the parties were unable to reach an agreement. VVD and CDA then withdrew.

Ronald Blok, party leader of the VVD, says that there were a few important issues. According to the VVD, for example, there was a lack of solid financial substantiation of the plans and there were different ideas about appointing aldermen. “As far as we are concerned, it is over. It is mainly a bad thing for the residents of Hilvarenbeek. HOI Werken does have the majority, but governing alone is not the best choice,” said the party leader of the VVD.

HOI Werk’s party chairman Ko Hamelink could not be reached for comment on Tuesday evening.
