Hoeneß victim speaks up

At the annual general meeting of FC Bayern, Honorary President Uli Hoeneß once again caused an uproar when he verbally attacked Qatar critic Michael Ott. Now the club member spoke up.

Hoeneß fired a sharp shot at Ott in the Audi Dome: “Your appearance was embarrassing. This is the Bayern Munich football club and not the general assembly of Amnesty International.”

The member had previously made a critical contribution to the cooperation with the desert state of Qatar.

“That surprised me,” said Ott after the AGM at “picture“-Zeitung on Hoeneß’ announcement. The Qatar critic went on to say: “We had a factual dialogue here at the general meeting, Mr Hoeneß is a little out of the ordinary. He’s certainly not interested in any factual dialogue, you could tell.”

Ott also revealed that a few weeks ago he had received an inquiry from “Zeit” that had planned a debate with Hoeneß. “That obviously failed because of Hoeneß, not because of me. But now he can obviously throw a few bad words at me.”

At this year’s annual general meeting, Ott had generally expected a more peaceful approach than last year. “That was my goal too. It doesn’t help anyone if the club sinks into chaos like last year,” he emphasized: “I thought it was good that we brought it to an objective level. That has worked developed throughout the year.”

Ott disappointed by the reaction of Bayern bosses

Ott was also disappointed by the reactions of the other Bayern bosses. “I have specifically stated that I would like to hear the opinion of the presidency as of today, they will already have an opinion today,” said the club member: “Even if they still want to make an assessment after the World Cup. They were able to do that bypassed, I think that’s a shame.”

Ott wanted to submit a spontaneous motion at the tumultuous annual general meeting a year ago to have the members vote on FC Bayern’s sponsorship deal with the airline Qatar Airways, which was very controversial among many Munich fans. The Presidium around Hainer did not allow that at the time.
