Hockey World Cup: German hockey women start with victory over Chile

Status: 02.07.2022 6:38 p.m

The German women’s hockey team started the World Championships in Spain and the Netherlands with the expected win.

In Amsterdam, the rejuvenated DHB selection clearly prevailed against outsiders Chile 4: 1 (2: 1) and thus collected the first points. Pauline Heinz (9th minute), Charlotte Stapenhorst (22nd/55th) and Anne Schröder (44th) scored the goals for the deserved victory of the clearly superior German women, who, however, missed a number of top-class chances against the World Cup newcomer. Above all, the penalty corner quota is expandable.

Strong next opponents for “DaNas”

On July 3 (7.30 p.m. in the live ticker) against the defending champion and host Netherlands and on July 6 (4.30 p.m. in the live ticker) against vice world champion Ireland, two completely different calibers are now waiting for the sixth in the world rankings from Germany.

Only the winners of the four preliminary round groups move directly into the quarter-finals. The runners-up and third-placed teams will each play a round of 16 in Amsterdam or in Terrassa, Spain. From the semi-final onwards, only the suburbs of Barcelona will be played.
