Vice world champions: The German hockey juniors

The German hockey juniors secured the silver medal at the U21 World Championships in South Africa.

Coach Akim Bouchouchi’s team only lost 3-1 in the final to arch-rivals the Netherlands. It was the first World Cup medal for female U21 youth since 2005.

“We’re proud of winning the medal. We’re not all that happy with the game because we came into the game too nervous,” said Bouchouchi, “nevertheless we’re all happy about the path we took and are looking into it in front.”

Last December, the U21s finished second at the World Cup in India after beating Argentina 4-2 in the final.
