The German men defeated European champions Netherlands at the end of their Pro-League season. A confirmation for national coach Henning.

At the end of a long season in the Pro League, the German hockey men put an exclamation mark.

With the 4:1 (0:1) win against European champions Netherlands in front of around 2,200 spectators in Hamburg, the team of national coach André Henning not only achieved a prestige success a good seven months before the World Cup in India.

Germany dominates after the break

“I already said at the beginning of the year that we are very close to being at the top of the world. And I think we’ve shown that when we’re keeping up with an absolutely top team.”, he said. The DHB team is currently fourth in the table with eight wins, two draws and six defeats. That will hardly change, even if other teams still have a few games to play.

The start of the last game of the season was not very promising for the hosts: the Pro-League leaders from the neighboring country scored the opening goal in the third minute. But the DHB team dominated in the second round and only gave up after Constantin Staib (Hamburger Polo Club) made it 4:1. Moritz Ludwig (Uhlenhorst Mülheim), Marco Miltkau (HC Klein Zwitserland) and Niklas Bosserhoff (Uhlenhorst Mülheim) had previously met.

German women lose for the second time

The DHB women, on the other hand, had to bow to the Netherlands on Sunday. The game ended 1:3 (0:2), the day before Valentin Altenburg’s selection had lost 2:3. The national coach wanted to name the squad for the World Cup in a timely manner. In the preliminary round, both teams will meet again in Amsterdam on July 3rd.
