H&M launches app for second-hand platform Sellpy

The Swedish fashion group has launched an app for the second-hand platform.

The app is intended to make it easier for customers to buy second-hand clothes, H&M announced on Wednesday. The business model, in which Sellpy takes over the sales process for the second-hand goods, convinces with a minimized risk for the consumer: all items go through a quality control, and there is also a right of return of 30 days. Previously, customers used a desktop version of Sellpy. “To give everyone the opportunity to live green, we want to reach our customers wherever they are,” said Sellpy CEO Michael Arnör. “In our quest to provide a seamless and frictionless shopping experience, we are excited to offer this new touchpoint where customers across all of our 24 markets can refresh their wardrobe and home in a more sustainable way.”

Sellpy was founded in 2014 by Arnör, Oskar Nielsen and Philipp Gunnstam and was initially launched in Sweden. In 2015, the H&M Group took a stake in the company and took over the majority stake in 2019 the second-hand platform with over 70 percent. The first expansion abroad took place in June 2020 with the Entry into the German market instead of. In February 2021 followed Austria and the Netherlands and a little later 20 other European countries.

The app was developed internally at Sellpy and is available for iOS and Android systems. The app currently provides “the most important components” for second-hand shopping. According to Max Frelén, Chief Product Officer at Sellpy, the company plans to gradually add new services in the future to improve the shopping experience.
