One in five people develop a condition that will eventually lead to dementia. In Flanders there are already about 150,000 people and their number is increasing rapidly. But what exactly is dementia and what is the difference with Alzheimer’s disease? Does it help to solve crossword puzzles so that they never bother you? How do you deal with a parent or partner who has dementia? Sander Aerens, a geriatric nurse specialist at UZ Gent, explains.
