Metal fans can visit Graspop in Dessel in the coming days and the prospects look great. Under the influence of a powerful high-pressure area, it will continue to be full of summer and the heat wave will not budge for the time being. During the weekend it can even get a few degrees warmer again, but how hot will it get exactly? And will it stay dry? Meteorologist Jonas De Bodt looks ahead to the festival weather during Graspop for us.
Thursday the festival will be able to start under summer conditions. It remains dry with lots of sun and some cumulus clouds. The temperature rises to about 27°C, but in the masses on the festival grounds it can easily get a few degrees warmer. The UV radiation peaks at 7 around 2 pm, which means that the skin can burn within 15 minutes. A light breeze blows from the northeast. Drinking enough water and protecting the skin against the strong sun is therefore definitely recommended. In the evening the cumulus clouds disappear and the north wind ensures that the raft cools down. At midnight it is still about 17°C and in the early morning we reach the minima of 13°C.
Also Friday we get ideal festival weather. It remains sunny and dry with only a few innocent cumulus clouds in the afternoon. The maxima fluctuate around 27°C with a weak north wind. In the evening it cools down again. Around 9 pm the mercury already dips below 20°C and by Saturday morning it will even be quite chilly with temperatures around 11 or 12°C.
Saturday the sun shines brightly and it can quickly warm up to 28°C. There is barely a breath of wind. Drinking enough water and protecting yourself against sunburn is therefore definitely the message. Saturday evening and night it will be clear and then it will cool down slowly. At midnight it is still about 20 degrees and by Sunday morning we will reach the minimum of 16°C.
Also on Sunday it will be sunny and warm on the festival grounds. The weak southeast wind brings in even slightly warmer air, allowing the mercury to climb a bit higher. Before noon we reach 25°C and in the course of the afternoon the temperature rises to 30 or 31°C. So it will be tropically warm again. In the course of the afternoon or evening some high cloud veils may appear, but it will remain dry. The heat will linger for a long time on Sunday evening. Around midnight it is still about 23°C and by Monday morning the temperature drops to about 18 degrees.
Graspop will therefore have beautiful festival weather! It stays dry every day with lots of sun and that at summer temperatures. It can even get tropically warm on Sunday. This is good news for festival goers, but drinking enough water, applying sun cream and seeking shade from time to time is definitely recommended in such weather.
