HJK sold out the Europa League home matches in an instant

The tickets for HJK’s European League matches sold out very quickly.

On Monday morning, HJK, which advanced to the group stage of the Europa League, put the tickets for three top matches to be played in Töölö on sale, which were quickly sold out.

The first to sell out was the match against the most famous team in the group, AS Roma. Tickets for this match sold out in 20 minutes.

After this, the tickets for the matches between Real Betis and Ludogorets were also sold out. HJK plays its Europa League home matches at Bolt Arena, which has a capacity of 10,770 seats.

One explanatory factor for the strong demand can be the ticket prices, which were at a fairly moderate level. Among other things, Hypo’s chief economist seized on this Juhana Brotherusaccording to which ticket prices were too low.

– Economic theory and empirical evidence suggest that HJK has set ticket prices too low for European League games, Brotherus wrote on Twitter.

CEO of HJK Aki Riihilahti soon responded to Brotherus’ criticism.

– Scarcity is a good thing, this increases the value of season ticket holders and partnerships, i.e. those who create long-lasting value in the community. Plus family club, i.e. family prices. So not when buying next year’s season ticket, Riihilahti wrote.

HJK would also have had the option of playing their home matches next door to the Bolt Arena at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium, which can hold an audience of more than 36,000 spectators.

HJK will face Betis at home on September 8, Ludogorets on October 6 and Roma on October 27.
