Hitting a hole in one to win a car: fifty golfers make an attempt

The special competition was created to celebrate the golf club’s 35th anniversary. The fact that there may be a car to be won, does lead to extra pressure on the shoulders of some golfers.

“Absolutely”, one of the participants agrees. “Very exciting.” The next one, however, shrugs. “Hey, I’m used to everything”, said one of the more experienced players. “It does not bother me.” To continue laughing: “I’m going to hit the ditch anyway.”

Watching the golfers for a while makes even the layman realize how incredibly difficult it is to hit that hole in one. Most participants do not even come close to the flag.

But the better ones manage to get the ball on the green, still meters away from the flag where the hole is located. “With the amateurs, the chance is about one in thirteen thousand,” says Cees Stolp of the Zaanse Golf Club. “With the pros that is one in three thousand. We therefore think that the car will be back in the showroom tonight.”

A somewhat stately older gentleman who also makes an attempt, nevertheless has a plan, should he win the car. “Then I drive straight to Spain,” he says with a wink. “Because it’s so nice and warm there.” When the golf ball finally misses its target, however, there is no man overboard. “I would have loved to win it, guys, but unfortunately,” says the participant with a twinkle in his eye. “I think I’m going to Denmark with my sailing boat now.”

Car back to dealer?

In the end, none of the fifty participants manages to hit the hole in one and the car goes back to the dealer.
