During an illegal car race on Tuesday night, a speeder caused a traffic accident in Buckow (Berlin-Neukölln) and then fled from the scene of the accident.

According to the police, a civil patrol noticed the race between three drivers at night. The emergency services then took up the pursuit. One of the three drivers escaped directly, the other two initially fled at increased speed and ignored several red lights.

At an intersection, one of the fugitives drove his car into the other’s vehicle, causing it to skid and crash into a garden fence and a power distribution box. Both drivers then continued to flee from the police on foot.

The person who caused the accident managed to escape, and emergency services arrested the other. Investigators suspected he was intoxicated, which is why the 41-year-old had to give a blood sample. The driver was then released from police custody.

The driver’s license of the 41-year-old and the two vehicles involved in the accident were confiscated.
