It is not surprising that nobody knows about the Toegoe community. Modesty adorns man, but this virtue certainly applies to the Tugunese, many of whom live in Hoogeveen. This population group is certainly not for sale with its origin from the former Dutch East Indies and the culture that it brought to Europe. “We are a humble people”, Ernst Cornelies from Apeldoorn rightly puts his stamp on the Tugunese, who are sometimes confused with (South) Moluccans because of their appearance, but are not.
