Historical films about the Zaan region can be seen in the municipal archives

You can watch free films about the history of the Zaan region for a whole day on Friday, January 26. The municipal archives is organizing such a day for the second year and knows that many Zaankanters will attend. “People here are extremely interested in Zaan’s industrial past. They are also proud of it,” says municipal archivist Frans Hoving.

In recent years, more than 1,000 films have been digitized by the archive. “It’s nice that you can show all that beautiful material on a special day,” says Hoving. Because normally it is stored in the archives. “You want to show it to the public. That’s the best part.”

Hoving mentions a few gems. A factory outing from Honig to the De Doelen theater in Rotterdam in honor of the 100th anniversary. “With sketches by the employees, music and dance. The ladies from the typing department belly dancing on stage.” Also a beautiful corporate film from the Klinkenberg company, which, among other things, made the Zaanbrug. And the opening of the Den Uyl Bridge. A total of 17 films will be shown in the Zaanstad town hall between 8:30 AM and 5:15 PM.
