Historical Association De Wijk-Koekange places 5000th photo in photo archive: ‘Nothing is too much for the team’

A small festive moment at the Historical Association De Wijk/Koekange last Saturday. The 5000th photo was added to the digital photo archive. The image from 1994 showed the couples Dunnink and Slomp in their supermarket on Dorpsstraat in De Wijk.

In honor of this milestone, the volunteers were rewarded with a bread meal, provided by supermarket owner Niek Slomp of Coop Dunnink.

Since its founding in 1998, the Historical Society started collecting photos, initially in scrapbooks with texts. In 2012 they made the transition to the digital age with ZCBS, where Ina ten Wolde became manager of the photo archive. In mid-2020, Freek Heuvelman took over and led the photo archive with a dedicated team. Heuvelman shares his appreciation: “Nothing is too much for them. I always get a quick answer to my questions, and the photos are always provided with further information.”

Digital archive

The Historical Association De Wijk/Koekange is constantly looking for new photos to enrich the digital photo archive. Persons who have photos relating to De Wijk and Koekange and wish to share them are cordially invited to do so.

The association offers the option to scan the photos so that the owner can immediately take them home. To make the information as complete as possible, you are requested to provide relevant details with the photos, such as names, years of birth, addresses and, if applicable, the location and former residents of buildings. Photos of which not all details are known are also of interest. These contributions help to keep the history of De Wijk and Koekange alive.
