‘Historic’ package of measures in the Dutch budget: purchasing power increases by 3.9 percent

The bill of millions was traditionally leaked on the Friday before Prinsjesdag, the opening of the new parliamentary year in the Netherlands. The budget for next year contains a purchasing power package that is “historic in size”: according to insiders, the measures now add up to more than 17 billion euros. As a result, the spending scope of households will increase next year: purchasing power will increase by 3.9 percent, the Central Planning Bureau has calculated according to various sources. This somewhat eases this year’s financial pain: according to estimates by the CPB, purchasing power will decline by almost 7 percent in 2022.
