Historic! Oshin Derieuw is the first Belgian boxer ever to win an Olympic ticket
The 36-year-old from West Flanders narrowly beat the French pit bull Emilie Sonvico, who was previously considered a very difficult opponent, 2-3. Derieuw is thus in the semifinals in Nowy Targ, but especially at the Olympic Games in Paris, as the first Belgian woman ever in boxing. Delfine Persoon was a contender for the previous Olympic Games two years ago in Tokyo, but she was allowed to put her Olympic dream away when a qualifying tournament was canceled. In Rio 2016, professional boxers were not yet welcome among the women.
Hungarian opponent
In Poland, Derieuw will face the Hungarian Anna Luca Hunhamori on Friday afternoon (2 pm) in the last four. He made it convincingly in the quarterfinals 5-0 against the Dutch Luna Amaro Beeloo. Earlier at these European Games, Derieuw convincingly beat Azerbaijani Shahla Allahverdiyeva 5-0 in the quarterfinals.
