The wall fell during the night from Friday to Saturday, but the cause is still being investigated. The wall has recently been renovated and whitewashed. The city does not rule out that a combination of the cold weather and a construction problem led to the collapse, but someone could also have driven into the wall.
The inner wall connects the tower with the Arnoldus Hall. There are plans to make an extra opening in the wall. Oudenburg may immediately provide for this opening during the reconstruction.
