The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) signed an agreement for national women’s football players to have the same economic conditions as men.
RFEF President Luis Rubiales signed an agreement with a validity of 5 years at the first stage, which stipulates that women playing in the Spanish national football teams have equal rights to premium and image income with men.
“We made an amazing deal that was pioneering in the football world. It’s a historic day.” said Rubiales, stressing that they prevent the economic inequality between men and women in football.
Rubiales said, “It is a very similar agreement to the international men’s footballer’s contracts, and it has some clauses beyond being fair. We must encourage women’s footballers. We want to gradually close the gap between men’s and women’s football and transfer more resources to women’s football.” she said.
It is stated that with the agreement, which has not yet been reflected in the salaries, only the premium and image incomes are equalized, the incomes of the national women’s football players will increase by 20 percent as of this year and this increase will reach up to 80 percent in 2027.
Some players of the National Women’s Football Team were also present at the agreement ceremony, which will cover the next two World Championships and two European Championships.
