Gijs Brouwer has reached the semi-finals of an ATP tournament for the first time. The 27-year-old tennis player from Venhuizen defeated JJ Wolf in Houston in two sets: 6-3, 6-4.
Brouwer, who was born in Houston, USA, had a difficult start. Due to the rain, his match against John Isner was moved for a day. The number 123 in the world was too strong for Isner in two sets: 6-4, 7-6.
A few hours later, the meeting with Wolf was already waiting. Last year Brouwer was also too strong for Wolf and this time he didn’t grant his opponent a single break point. He won the match with conviction.
Brouwer will face Francis Tiafoe from the United States in the semifinals. The North Hollander is having a strong year. In February he reached the quarterfinals of the ATP tournament in Rotterdam. In the end, Tallon Greek track was a size too big.
