Nick Cave’s son Jethro Lazenby has died. In a statement on Monday (May 9), Cave confirmed the 30-year-old’s death. “It is with great sadness that I can confirm that my son Jethro has passed away. We would be grateful if our privacy is respected during these difficult times.”
The cause of death has not been released. Jethro Lazenby, a former actor and former model, is said to have been in an Australian prison until recently after assaulting his mother, Beau Lazenby. According to Melbourne’s Herald Sun, he was only released from custody on Thursday (May 5), four days before his death.
Jethro was Cave’s second son; he only met him eight years after his birth. “To my regret, I had very little contact with him in his early years,” Cave once said. “But now we have a great relationship.”
With Jethro Lazenby, Nick Cave loses his second child within a few years. In 2015, his son Arthur died at the age of 15 after falling off a cliff. Cave dedicated the following albums “Skeleton Tree” and “Ghosteen” to him. Cave has two other sons, Luke, 32, and Earl, 21 – the twin brother of the late Arthur.
