There are “Fuffies” in the club, nice restaurants, travel vibes and a rap track that sounds like punk.
If you look at this week’s releases, hip hop seems to be in hibernation already. While at the end of November you didn’t know which rap album you should listen to first, you now have to be patient or rather pump Mariah Carey’s Christmas hit a little longer. If neither of these suits you, you can stream your way through our recommendations here.
Kalim ft. Badmómzjay – “Fuffies”
After Badmómzjay released her second album SURVIVAL MODE at the end of November, she can now be heard as a feature on Kalim’s new track “Fuffies”. Definitely a contrast to her record, which sheds light on the dark side of her career – even if there are of course self-confident songs there too. On a sample of Sido’s “Fuffies im Club” Kalim and Badmómzjay now bring aggro Berlin vibes to the start. You could analyze the lyrics à la German lessons, but the title sums up the track quite well: the two rappers celebrate their success and throw “fuffies” in the club.
Ufo361 ft. Lancey Foux – “Vivienne Westwood”
For the eighth single, from the mixtape SONY, which will be released in January 2024, Ufo361 has teamed up with British rapper Lancey Fox. Her track “Vivienne Westwood” is actually less about fashion than about a woman falling in love with a punk.
And what kind of Ufo361 track would it be if it wasn’t also about parties and money?! Even. But the 36-year-old’s allusion to fashion icon Vivienne Westwood is actually not far-fetched, as the rapper deals extensively with fashion in his private life and has already surprised people with one or two looks. In 2022 he presented himself in high heels, which seems unusual for the toxic image of men that still dominates the rap scene.
BIA, Sfera Ebbasta, Fivio Foreign – “Milano”
BIA has also already worked with artists from different countries. There was also one or two collaborations on German soil with Luciano. Now BIA is moving on to “Milano”: The single was released on the deluxe version of their EP REALLY HER in September and has been streamed over 18 million times. Now the music video for the track follows, in which she goes from New York to the Italian city together with the Italian rapper Sfera Ebbasta and Fivio Foreign and has a good time in restaurants and bars.
Biji – “Zo”
Biji is a Kurdish-Swedish duo consisting of rapper Robin Nazari and music producer Maceo Frost. If you don’t know Nazari through his music, you might have already seen him as an actor in the Netflix series “Clark” or “Quick Money”. Musically, Biji combine hip hop with Afrobeats and dance influences and add a Kurdish and West Asian touch to the whole thing. Accordingly, Nazari raps in Kurdish and underlines “Zo” with a music video in which he goes on a tourist bus as a tour guide.
