The latest rap releases at a glance: OG Keemo, TJ_beastboy and Lil Durk & J. Cole.
On May 12th, the hip-hop world again had new, exciting releases to offer. We introduce you to the three most interesting releases. This time with new music from: OG Keemo, TJ_beastboy and Lil Durk & J. Cole.
OG Keemo – “PIMPSPORT Interlude”
Only a few German rappers can probably afford to release an Interlude as a single. But OG Keemo just can’t be mad at, right? “PIMPSPORT Interlude” is like the side salad in the restaurant that is served far too early and actually only makes the hunger for the main course worse. Yes, the track is delicious, to stay with the image, but with a running time of almost a minute it’s just an interlude. In any case, we’re in the mood for the main course, the FIEBER EP, which will be released on September 15th.
TJ_beastboy – MATHEMATIC RAPADDICT
The new dad TJ_beastboy is back after a long break with the EP MATHEMATIC-RAPADDICT. He builds on earlier projects, relies on varied flows and switches the voice here and there. The lyrics feel more mature than they did two years ago. Of course there were also serious songs by the former YouTuber back then, but the bangers have always been his more humorous tracks. Contemplative numbers dominate MATHEMATIC-RAPADDICT, including the album’s highlight “EMPTY THE CLiP”. Daniel Tjarks, as the rapper’s real name is, doesn’t give up the joke on the new EP either. Isolated lines and above all ad-libs appear again and again, which often border on the cringe, but only very rarely exceed it.
Lil Durk, J. Cole – “All My Life”
The fact that J. Cole is not above collaborating with a wide variety of rappers was proven with “on the street” at the latest, which he recorded with j-hope from BTS. He was the first US rapper to work with a K-pop star. The fact that the song ended up being mediocre at best only plays a minor role. Because one thing is clear: J. Cole is a master of features. So here we go again, this time with Lil Durk from Chicago. “All My Life” is a thoroughly life-affirming track. “All my life they’ve been trying to keep me down,” the two rap in the hook. But that’s the end of it. Lil Durk and J. Cole rise above the negative media reports – and especially the nothing-patrons. They are supported by a children’s choir, which is supposed to give you goosebumps, but seems out of place. The two rapper colleagues work well as a duo. There’s also a music video.
