At the sold-out Himos Juhannus festival, nearly 30,000 people have enjoyed the midsummer celebration in sunny weather. However, the festivities of the festivities have divided the festival crowd in two: those who pay up to 17 euros for sanitary facilities and those who do not.

Iltalehti reached out to the production manager of the Himos Juhannus festival Anniina Havukainen to comment on the matter. Havukainen emphasizes that the toilet bracelet, which costs 17 euros, only applies to water toilets.

– The owner of the area has made this possible for the festival people and built it, Havukainen states.

So there are also free toilets at the festival that don’t work with water.

– They can be found, for example, near the toilets in a good row and also in the middle stages of the event area. There are enough toilets for every customer here, even if they have to queue a bit, says the production manager.

Cleaning patrol circling

The toilet bracelet costs 17 euros from Thursday to Sunday, 10 euros from Friday to Sunday and six euros from Saturday to Sunday. The bracelet may have been pre-ordered or purchased from the event area. The price of the bracelet is the responsibility of the event organizer and covers, among other things, the cleaning and maintenance costs caused by the water toilets.

– We strive to provide clean facilities with a little less queuing and thus be able to serve customers in the best possible way.

There are stewards in front of the toilets, who make sure that the water toilets are used by the festival visitors who bought the toilet. According to Havukainen, the misuse of toilet wristbands has not been particularly apparent at festivals.

The bracelets are quite safe and cannot be properly transferred from friend to friend. The bracelet is like a festival bracelet, says the production manager.

There is one cleaning patrol around the event area, which guards the cleanliness and general appearance of the toilets.

– But of course, at the time when there are a lot of people between gigs, it is not possible to put a cleaning patrol there, Havukainen says.

Unique toilets

The production manager knows that the water toilets in the toilets have been renovated this year with paper racks made of environmentally friendly plastic. Toilet paper is made in Jämsänkoski, which is about a 15-minute drive from Himos.

The water closets were built in Himos in 2015 in connection with the terrace restaurant Riemu. The toilets are also used at other Nelonen festivals in Himos, such as the Iskelmä Festival and Jysär. Pricing is the same at all festivals as at Midsummer.

– For example, Tahko does not have such buildings as there are here. This is unique in Finland. Very many festivals do not have water toilets for customers at all, unless we talk about such toilet containers, which we also have in the VIP area for its customers, Havukainen states.
