That particular Thursday afternoon the house phone rings at 1:30 PM. The 76-year-old woman from Hilversum is made to believe that strange transactions have taken place with her accounts. The woman is kept on the phone for hours.
Ultimately, the lady trusts the ‘bank’s telephone helpdesk’. Around 5 p.m., a courier, a colleague of the so-called bank employee she is talking to on the phone at that moment, is standing in front of her home. The lady lets him in.
Snooping around
The man snoops around the house, allowing him to obtain the woman’s bank card. The man leaves the house with the pass and code. This will then be done at 6.31 pm at Kapittelweg in Hilversum and at 7.15 pm at Gijsbrecht van Amstelstraat, also in Hilversum. A total of 5,400 euros is withdrawn from the wall by two different suspects.
The so-called bank employee is still on the phone with the woman, even around 10:45 p.m., when the courier is at her door again. The victim, who was not yet aware that her bank card had been stolen, collected valuables in the house at the courier’s request.
To make matters worse, this ‘helpful’ courier even helps pack the items. These would not have been stored safely and would therefore have to be taken with them to be stored elsewhere.
Candlesticks worth 20,000 euros
The fraudster calmly helps the lady pack the things and eventually walks away with them. Damage post? About tens of thousands of euros. These are very valuable items, including two 2-armed silver candlesticks, worth 10 thousand euros each. Boxes with various jewelry and a Samsung Galaxy S5 were also given.
