Hilversum station fire alarm finally extinguished after four hours, ‘Very annoying sound’

The fire alarm at Hilversum station is finally off after four hours. The alarm was most likely triggered by the work in one of the shops in the building. But the exact cause is not clear.

“There was no question of a dangerous situation, but it is of course an irritating noise,” the NS spokesperson told NH News. One of the shops at the station is being redecorated and the alarm is said to have gone off due to that work. An exact cause is not clear, according to the spokesperson.

Train traffic was not hindered by the alarm and travelers and shopkeepers remained calm during the sounding. Checking in was not possible, however, because the gates opened automatically and issued a warning that travelers ‘leave the station immediately.’ Via Twitter, NS advised travelers to explain to the conductors on duty why check-in was not possible and to simply check out at the terminal station.
