Matti Ahde was fired from his job as CEO of Veikkaus in April 2001. The reason was long-lasting and repeated sexual harassment, which Ahteen was allegedly guilty of.
The situation was word for word. No concrete evidence of harassment was presented.
– I thought I knew from the experience of our long marriage that Matti would never be able to do anything against anyone. I was sure that what the other didn’t want done to him, he didn’t do. He was also the world’s worst liar, let alone an actor, Hilkka Ahde states in her recent biography when recalling the incident.
Hilkka took the harassment accusations against her husband very seriously. He had a mental breakdown even before his spouse fired him. The biography tells how Hilkka wished at night that she would not wake up the next morning.
Veikkaus’ doctor prescribed Hilka sedatives, and later in the spring she was treated for a couple of days at Mehiläinen Hospital. Hilka’s physical symptoms revealed the depth of her depression:
– I woke up in the night when something warm and wet flowed under me. I woke up and my first thought was that it couldn’t be amniotic fluid, I wasn’t pregnant. So I got wet, Hilkka says in her biography.
After Mati’s firing, Hilkka continued to feel bad during the spring and summer and had to rely on sedatives throughout the fall. The support of relatives and close friends was important, and with them Hilkka and Matti went through what happened again and again.
