Hilde Crevits exchanges Work, Economy and Agriculture for Well-being

A musical musical chairs at CD&V had become inevitable. After Wouter Beke’s departure, there were two major slopes on the table. Or opt for a new and Limburg face at the post of Welfare. In other words, Hilde Crevits – slightly against her will, but if the party asks, she will acquiesce – to work in the Welfare department, where it is better for an ‘ancien’ to handle matters.

Heavy portfolio Well-being

In the end it became a mix of both, which is presented to the members: Crevits is responsible for Welfare and Jo Brouns is added to the Flemish government. Crevits also relinquishes agriculture to Brouns. A historically important matter for CD&V. Especially now, because in West Flanders – where Crevits is strong – farmers are still very dissatisfied with the nitrogen agreement. However, the powers will not be reallocated and the entire ‘Work, Economy and Agriculture’ portfolio will go to Jo Brouns, the newcomer. Cd&v thus emphasizes the importance that the party attaches to doing a good job at the Welfare department.

Hilde Crevits has to deal with a new and difficult department in terms of content. And she must – as the remaining heavyweight of CD&V in the Flemish government – probably against her will, leave the Agriculture department to a party member from another province.
