Hikers brave VAM mountain for charity, Mont Ventoux next challenge

Climbing the Mont Ventoux, on foot or by bike, is high on the wish list for many people. Anyone who felt like warming up before that and contributing to the charity, could make the trip to the top of the VAM mountain in Wijster yesterday.

The Drents Landschap plotted the route of approximately five kilometers to the highest point of Drenthe. For 5 euros it was possible to join. Participants thereby supported the Toon Hermans Huis Drenthe in Hoogeveen, the center for life with and after cancer. The intention is that the trip to the top is done every year. Yesterday was the first time.

With the VAM Ventoux loop, as the walk is officially called, a link is made with the challenge that awaits in France in September. Then the Mont Ventoux is climbed, also for charity. To get the right feeling for this, fanatics could also climb the VAM mountain several times.

75 walkers attended yesterday, says Hennie Bouwmeester, general coordinator of Toon Hermans Huis Drenthe. “We look back on a nice successful day,” she says. “Many people have donated extra money. In total we have collected 1,100 euros and we are very happy with that.”

Because the Toon Hermans Huis has been closed a lot in the past two years because of corona, the money comes in handy. “That will be on the bill, so that we can do good things for our guests and visitors again.”
