Haaland before the next jump
The record in the Italian league has been broken, but not quite that in Spain. With the recent market value updates of Serie A and LaLiga, two stars of the two top leagues climbed into historic spheres. Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior (22) posted the sixth-highest market cap ever for a footballer with his upgrade, and former Wolfsburg Victor Osimhen (24) caught up with Cristiano Ronaldo among others. In the top 4 of the ranking, however, there will also be movement in the near future, because the update in the Premier League is due on June 20th.
Highest market values in history: Osimhen & Vini Jr. climb
The transfer fees for player changes have continuously increased to enormous amounts in recent years. This is why even the highest market values in history are more likely to be held by current top players such as Kylian Mbappé or Neymar and less by former football greats. Even the multiple world footballer Ronaldo is falling further and further down in the ranking. In this respect, the Portuguese is now getting close to Naples’ Osimhen. The Nigerian broke the record market value for a player at an Italian club.
A market value of 120 million euros, as Ronaldo once had at Real Madrid and today Osimhen in Italy, has only been surpassed by 14 players worldwide. As of this week, this includes Vinicius Junior. In the LaLiga update, the Brazilian climbed to a valuation of €150m. This is not only the second highest value achieved in Spain after Lionel Messi (180m at Barça in 2018), but also the sixth highest value in market value history worldwide. However, Vini Jr. shares that personal high with seven other professionals.
The next updates in the top leagues: New market values in the premier league with Erling Haaland there on June 20, the Bundesliga-Values are updated on June 22nd, and June 27th is the League 1 including Mbappé.
This is how the Transfermarkt market values work
The Transfermarkt market values are created taking into account various pricing models and a strong involvement of the Transfermarkt community, which deals with the values in detailed discussions. The transfer market market values are not to be equated with the transfer fees actually paid.
The goal is not to predict a price, but an expected value. When determining the market value, both individual transfer modalities and situational framework conditions are relevant to a certain extent. Examples of this are listed here. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (for detailed market value definition).
