High sick leave at Lufthansa

FRANKFURT (Dow Jones) – The sick leave at Lufthansa has risen sharply due to Corona. A Lufthansa spokesman told Bild am Sonntag: “The sickness rate among our ground staff has risen sharply. Due to corona infections, but also due to overwork, the sickness rate here is up to 30 percent. The rate for flying staff in the cockpit and cabin is significantly lower in the single digits.”

According to the newspaper, 5,000 suitcases belonging to Lufthansa passengers are left behind on the ground at Frankfurt Airport alone every day. Abandoned suitcases are now even being transported to Munich by truck from various German airports. According to the Bavarian Ministry of Transport, around 5,000 suitcases from various airlines are currently stored at Munich Airport, which still have to be delivered to their owners. Bavaria’s Transport Minister Christian Bernreiter confirmed to the newspaper: “Bavaria relieves other airports.” The airport provides the storage space for this, and the respective airline must take care of the delivery.
