High fuel prices have no consequences for transporter Simon Loos yet

These are uncertain times for transport companies. Fuel prices have skyrocketed as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Private individuals can still choose to cycle more often, but transport companies have little choice. Also Simon Loos from Wognum, good for 1,400 trucks.

Due to the war in Ukraine, fuel prices are skyrocketing. The suggested retail price for a liter of petrol is currently at 2.45 euros, for diesel it is 2.32 euros. That is something that transport companies also suffer from. Such as Simon Loos in Wognum, which makes nearly 3,700 rounds around the world every year.

“We also follow developments closely and have good contact with our customers about this”, spokesperson Isabel Broersen said. According to her, the increased fuel prices have not yet had any consequences for the company.

Fuel prices passed on

Because transport companies often have options to pass on the increased fuel prices to their customers, a so-called fuel clause. “We have concluded a fuel clause with the majority of our customers. These kinds of agreements are especially important now and something we have good cooperation with our partners in the sector.”

“Drivers are trained to optimize their driving style”

Economical driving

Also with a view to the future, the management of Simon Loos has entered into discussions with its own drivers. That includes the environment. For example, drivers are already being trained to drive as economically as possible. “All our drivers are trained to optimize their driving style,” explains Broersen.

In order to save as much fuel as possible, the company also looks at efficiency. “Thanks to the expertise of our planners, the journeys are planned as sustainably as possible.”

Although Simon Loos has also been working with electric trucks since 2013, the war in Ukraine once again emphasizes the usefulness and necessity of sustainability, the spokesperson believes. “From this month, we will be driving more than twenty electric trucks. We will use these trucks for retail distribution and catering supplies in the city centers of Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague.”
