Wietze de Jager was seriously slammed in RTL Boulevard last night. He is called ‘Wietze the complainer’ by the country’s most important show column. “This is really quite remarkable.”
It is the ultimate dream of most radio DJs: presenting the morning show during peak hours. Radio 538 star Wietze de Jager has been heard at this coveted time since the beginning of last year, together with Klaas van der Eerden. But soon he started complaining live on the channel that he would like to have more time off. And now he is being replaced.
Wietze the Complainant
Wietze wanted to go back from five to four days a week. And to think he only has to work a few hours a day… He got in last night RTL Boulevard therefore also called ‘Wietze the Complainer’.
Presenter Daphne Bunskoek: “Radio DJ Wietze de Jager has found out that making radio is hard work (…) Isn’t it very remarkable? It is about the most ambitious program on Dutch radio, that morning show. Then I would also like someone who thinks: yes, this is what I’m going for.”
“I mean: how long has Edwin Evers been there? You also need a little…”
Dad days
Expert Rob Goossens does not understand Wietze. “Yes indeed. There are professions that you might be able to pursue with a little fresh reluctance, but making a radio show like that every morning and getting up with your listener is not one of them.”
He continues: “So if you first start philosophizing about those daddy days, while the program was not going so well, and then you cannot answer the question: ‘Will you still be there in three, five or seven years?’, then you are making it very difficult for yourself…”
Faux pass
Wietze is just a failure, says Evert Santegoeds in the podcast Strictly Private. “It was already a bit coming after that incredible faux-pas last year, when he had just become king of the morning and then started complaining that he had to be early. Then I think: did you not realize that at all beforehand?”
It is strange that Wietze does not show full commitment, says Evert. “He is having a fourth child. You would say: that should also eat, but he has nevertheless chosen not to enter into a long-term contract for the 538 morning.”
What does Patty think?
Patty Brard thinks it is logical that Wietze is now out at 538, she says Show news. “He has complained about it quite a few times on the radio, including with the listeners. I find that whining about it all the time… You know what you’re getting into!”
Evert: “They didn’t even put a dent in a packet of butter. It was never about that radio show on 538 in the morning. I think Tim Klijn will do very well.”
And Frits Huffnagel: “It is also strange. You’re listening to the radio, you’re on your way to work and in the meantime someone is complaining about having to get up so early. Doesn’t that also apply to all those listeners?”
